Facial Chemical Peels
Enjoy the benefits of facial chemical peels and wrinkle treatment by Dr. John Harris in Ponte Vedra Beach
Dr. Harris may advise a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) facial peel to help improve and smooth the texture of your facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. A TCA facial peel can be helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. Dr. Harris uses a 35% TCA solution to provide a medium depth peel for his patients. Dr. Harris feels that phenol peels or heavy CO2 laser peels are more prone to be complicated by wound healing problems, prolonged redness, and inflammatory pigment change.
A full-face TCA peel usually takes no more than 30 minutes. Dr. Harris may recommend two or more TCA peels to obtain the desired result, which may be spaced out over several months.
After a TCA peel, Dr. Harris may prescribe a mild pain medication to relieve any tingling or throbbing you may feel. A crust or scab may form on the treated area and there may be significant swelling. Dr. Harris will monitor your healing process. Patients are typically healed from their TCA peels in 10 days, at which time make-up can be applied.
Dr. Harris advises his TCA-peel patients to avoid sun exposure for several months after treatment to protect the newly formed layers of skin. Even a medium depth TCA peel may also produce some unintended color changes in the skin.
Dr. Harris and his staff will advise you of the best UVA and UVB skin care sun protection.
Though infrequent, there is some risk of infection and scarring. Be sure to tell Dr. Harris or his staff if you have a history of cold sores or herpes infections so that oral medicine prophylaxis can be accomplished prior to your peel.
